Wissahickon Youth Wrestling – Program Overview

League Participation – Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL)
Wissahickon Youth Wrestling proudly competes in the Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL), a well-established and respected regional youth wrestling league.
Wissahickon Youth Wrestlers compete in the Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL)—a nonprofit regional youth wrestling league founded in 1976 that now includes approximately 48 teams across Pennsylvania and Delaware, serving over 3,500 wrestlers in grades PK–8.
Wrestling with Wissahickon Youth Wrestling (WYW) offers athletes a rich, competitive experience that builds both character and skill. Competing in the Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL), WYW wrestlers participate in approximately seven Saturday dual meets each season. During these meets, youngsters typically wrestle two to four matches each—sometimes even more if the bracket is large—totaling around 14–28 dual matches throughout the season. This consistent competition enhances confidence, resilience, and technique development, while the double-elimination championship tournaments offer further high-level challenges and memorable team moments. All told, a full-season participant could engage in 20–35+ matches, gaining invaluable wrestling experience, strategic understanding, and camaraderie—all hallmarks of the WYW program.
ICWL Dual Meets
-
The season features 7 Saturday dual or tri-meets, where teams field wrestlers matched by age, weight, and experience in “pairings” that are set using a specialized program
-
Matches typically run 2–3 hours, starting around 8:45 a.m., with adjustments made during the event to maximize participation
-
To maintain scheduling flexibility and readiness, families should reserve Saturdays in December, January, and February.
-
Availability declarations are essential—please respond promptly when WYW requests input to ensure accurate match pairings and logistics.
